Not abandoning Florida just yet

I took a series of photos of mannequins at the Swap  shop in Fort Lauderdale and put them together  - does help forget about snow here.

We were invited for a nice lunch at friends whose place was on the 18th floor where the building is on the same side as the beach; so I was able to get a few angle shots that are interesting and not so easy to get normally.

Two favourite with people

A continuation from yesterday's post about my "exposed" photos. In general I take them as environmental portraits but that the person is only part of the environment accidentally.  I loved the color of the women's hat in the first photo.  I like the second photo but it does not really fit as well in my interpretation of "exposed" - maybe it would have if he was a few feet to the right?

This photo combines my architectural leanings with a series of photos I started after seeing an exhibition at the Tate Museum called "exposed" which was all about surveillance and clandestine photography. 

Brenin in colour

One of the reasons to visit Florida was to see the newest addition to our extended family. Here Brenin sleeps in a very colorful environment.

Wheels of fortune

Continuing the Florida series - On the way back to my nephew's I asked to be dropped off early - so that I could walk the rest of the way home and take photos of the typical business architecture of the area. The buildings there were not yet franchises and therefore retained some character. I liked this one of a garage.

Starting a Flag Series

While in the US you can't help but notice how many flags are around. Of course this just becomes another series to take. I liked the lushness of this property as well.

Tributes to Lynne Cohen and Charles Sheeler

We got a deal to stay at the Ritz and while walking around taking photos I saw the above which reminded me of the photos Lynne Cohen and the one below that reminded me of Charles Sheeler.

Continuing from yesterday's where to find them, this picture seems to imply how to pay for them.

Oh so that's where I can find them!

Went to the "Swap Shop", a very big flea market / Kiosk shopping area in Fort Lauderdale. You could get anything there and it seems even women according to the sign.

Handicapped Parking Signs at Cuban Restaurant parking lot

In the parking lot of the strip mall that the Cuban restaurant was in I took a series of the handicapped parking signs as I felt that they weren't physically in the best shape either.

My nephew and I went to pick up some sandwiches at a Cuban restaurant. While waiting I went around and took photos - This was my favorite.

Tree Porn

I have a series of "tree porn" photos and when I saw this tree I thought it may be a candidate for the collection. My nephew asked me what I saw, and I mentioned the idea - he then said "Well then you should look at the other side!!" and I took the second picture.

My Favourite Florida Photo

Fort Lauderdale's beach is on the other side of the road from all the hotels, restaurants and stores. I took many photos from the other side of the road, and there often was a surrealistic feel to the lighting.

Even in Florida I can't help myself

I seem to be able to find thrown out couches where-ever my travels take me. My nephew mentioned that in Florida just being outside and looking like garbage doesn't necessarily mean that it is; but I am pretty sure this constitutes an unwanted couch.
