Where did I take this?

The idea of using photographs as a substitute for memory reminds me of a story of a photographer who was on a long trip through the US west mountains and on the first day watched his camera and tripod fall over the cliff. He then proclaimed that now he would have to really experience where he was now, not later. I have heard it said that photography makes you more aware of the world around you, but sometimes prevents you from living init.

Impermanent too

On Queen Mary Road they are tearing down a block of small buildings with stores to replace them with an integrated building, presumably with new storefronts. I decided to take some pictures of the establishments before they disappear, partially to record history, but more likely to help my memory. I have become tired of seeing new stores and having no idea what store was there the week before.

Pete Turner related podcasts

In the fourth Naked Photo podcast this photo is discussed, and there is a nice intro to it on Pete Turner's work. I hope he continues his podcasts longer than the other Pete Turner podcast I liked - George Eastman house stopped at about 15 a few years ago and I felt that the Pete Turner podcast they did was one of theirt best. Below are the links.

My new business card - from MOO

After a number of failed attempts to order - I finally was able to complete the transaction without computer glitches. Should be very easy - you just take pictures from your flickr account and make your information side after.

It took so long since the first attempt that I forgot to put my blog address!

But I did get to use my new logo.

They are quite special when you give out. They cost about 50¢ each and come out nicer than the scan shown here

A couple of my BIG works

(from the Montreal West local paper - the informer)

Artists’ Showcase

Water is the theme of the current Montreal West Artists’ Showcase. Print-maker Annette Wolfstein-Joseph’s interpretation of the subject includes boats, sails, seagulls and spray. Prolific photographer Alex Brzezinski is participating in the show and Janice Hamilton has contributed photos taken on the rocky coast of Maine. In the display case is a collection of Sheila Caplan’s Judaica pottery, including a hand washing cup, pitcher/bowl for Seder and Miriam's cup. Gaby Orbach’s delightful polymer clay jewellery and fish finger puppets by Janet King can also be seen. The exhibit will remain on view in the Music Room, upstairs Assembly Hall and display cabinet until the spring.

The paper didn't have my picture, but I thought I'd show some of my work there.
